Missed Party Consolation Prize

We were supposed to go to a Valentine's Day party this past Saturday. I woke up sick, Lil Sis was still sick and her cold seemed worse. Big Bro was fussy and said he was too tired to go anywhere. We did have a busy week. Good, I thought. He won't mind missing the party.

Just wait two minutes and three year olds will inevitably change their mind. Sure enough, a few minutes later Big Bro was insisting that he really did want to go to the party. He kept insisting throughout the morning.

As a consolation prize I suggested we could bake cookies. We made those peanut butter thumbprint cookies with Hershey kisses on top. Big Bro loves to bake. He measured and stirred. He peeled the wrappers off the chocolate kisses and helped stick them in the cookies. He tasted the batter and some of the chocolates. Then we ate some of the finished cookies too while the kisses were still melted and gooey.

Then we skyped Grandma and Grandpa in Florida and he showed them his cookies. They oohed and ahhed and said they wished they could eat some. Big Bro was proud and happy. Mama was too. Missed party crisis averted.
