Spring Runneth Over

Yesterday was April Fools Day, but I kid you not, it felt like spring finally!  The kids and I went outside in the sunshine. The temperature was in the 40s, eureka! There were birds singing and geese flying north while honking loudly. There was a mix of snow, brown grass, and mud on the ground. No spring crocuses yet, but it can't be long now.

We hung up the swings on the swing set  and the kids had a blast. It was the first swing since October of last year.

Big Bro dug in the garden and was clamoring to get more of the sand toys out of the locked basement.

Then we went to check the sap buckets and boy were they flowing. This bucket was almost full to the brim.

There was some frozen sap floating on top so we took it out and let the kids suck out the sugar. They couldn't get enough. We saved it in the freezer for a future snack.

We went outside again after dinner and got the maple sap boiling as a family. The kids ran in the driveway, stomped in puddles, and wanted to swing and dig in the dirt all night long.

But bedtime comes every night. We got them inside and to bed as the sun went to bed too.

At last spring is truly springing. I can feel it! Better days ahead for those of us with small children restless from a harsh winter.
